Hansel Thorn is an up and coming producer from Bakersfield, California. When I heard his recent release, Feel It, I had to interview him and see what he’s all about.
Let’s start with the basics, what’s your name, how old are you and what’s life like outside of producing music?
My name is david! I am 18 years old. Almost everyday i get out of school and start making music then go hang out with my friends. I love going to musical events but i don’t get to go that often.Hansel Thorn? How’d you come up with the alias?
Hansel Thorn is a name I thought of when I was around 14 and for some reason i remembered it. I wanted to think of a name no one would ever think of.How long have you been producing music, and why did you start?
I have been producing music since 2011. I have always loved trance and started making it but the more genres I discovered the more I wanted to make them.‘Standing’ is one of the most mesmerizing tracks that I’ve ever heard. Is this like a one-time style, or do you have plans to continue to produce chill tracks like this?
I love making relaxing music! I dont know if it will be chill trap in the future but definitely some very deep tracks. I think that these kinds of tracks are my favorite to make because you can really dive deep into your emotions and be creative as possible.Do you think you’ve found your ‘style’ or are you continuing to experiment?
I am constantly changing the music I make i dont think i will ever have a set style of music but a big mix of strange stuff.Do you have any other musical experience outside of producing on a computer?
Yes. I have been playing piano for a very long time. I play guitar, Bass guitar, didgeridoo, jaw harp, throat sing, beat box, and play drums (a little, just for fun). What influences your music? Any specific artists?
I like to think that everything influences my music.Who’s your favorite producer(s) right now?
Armin van burren and ATB.Other than EDM, do you listen to any other genres of music?
I like listening to mariachi music and Indian music because its so different and the scales for Indian music are CRAZY!How would you describe your music to someone who’s never listened to it before?
Speaker rock music.Anything in the works, or any big plans for the future?
I am working on a bunch of stuff! alot of dirty dutch and moombahton and that wired sexy club music.
